About Rafael Vieira

I’m Rafael Vieira, a film composer, sound designer and audio post specialist based in Brazil, working nationally and internationally.

I love what music and sound can make us feel. When I was young, I heard Beethoven in A Clockwork Orange, and something changed for me. The next day, I went looking for the sheet music. I wanted to understand how those notes could have such an effect on me.

Later, I wanted to know how the guitars and drums on Aerosmith records could sound so huge. That curiosity led me to study music at Souza Lima Conservatory in São Paulo and explore recording, mixing and music production. Along the way, I fell in love with the studio and the craft of bringing a scene to life, detail by detail. Today, I love exploring how music and sound work together to tell a story. I’d love to bring that curiosity and experience to your film, TV or commercial project.

I’ve worked with talented teams on film, TV and commercial projects. My work includes the original score, sound design and mixing for the New York short film Onlooker, and sound design and mixing for the UK television pilot The Madam. I’ve been part of teams behind advertising campaigns recognised at Cannes Lions, Clio Awards, among others.

I’ve collaborated with directors in Brazil, the US, the UK, Sweden and beyond. Portuguese is my native language, and I’m comfortable working in English. I speak a little German too. I value the different creative perspectives that working across borders brings.

The people are a big part of why I enjoy this work. I like asking questions, exchanging ideas and getting excited about what we can create together. I care about clear communication and keeping the process friendly and collaborative.

I’m a volunteer mentor with ScreenCraft Works’ Cross-Border Mentoring scheme, where supporting emerging creatives from different countries and backgrounds brings me a lot of joy.

I’m excited by the technical side of sound and what new tools can help us create. My favourite part, though, is when everyone’s contributions come together and the project becomes something none of us could have made alone. That’s what makes me smile.

If you have a film, TV or other creative project in development or already underway, I’d love to hear about it and explore how we could work together. Let’s talk.
